How to get text from an MP4

  1. 1

    Upload the MP4

Drag the video into the box above. Your browser uploads the file and the transcription runs on our servers.

  2. 2

    We extract the audio

Only the sound is transcribed, so the picture quality of your video makes no difference to the result.

  3. 3

    Review the transcript

Check the speaker labels, rename speakers and correct names.

  4. 4

    Export text or captions

Download TXT, DOCX or PDF for reading, or SRT and VTT for captions that line up with the video.

If your MP4 is over 1 GB

Long screen recordings can pass the limit. Since only the audio matters, you can upload just that.

Check for an audio file first

Zoom saves an M4A audio file alongside the MP4 for many recordings. It is much smaller and gives the same words.

Extract the audio yourself

With ffmpeg installed, run: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vn -c:a aac -b:a 128k output.m4a. The result is a small audio file you can upload here.

Using the captions

SRT

The most widely supported caption format. YouTube and most video editors accept it.

VTT

The caption format used by HTML5 video players on the web.

What you get with GhostMinutes

No bot in your call

You upload the file after the call, so nothing shows up in the participant list.

Old recordings work too

Upload a recording from today or from last year. GhostMinutes takes MP3, MP4, MOV, M4A, WAV, FLAC, MKV and other audio or video formats up to 1 GB.

Speaker labels and timestamps

Each line shows who spoke and when. Rename the speakers, then ask the AI questions about what was said.

95+ languages

Transcribe and summarize in more than 95 languages. GhostMinutes detects the language of each file automatically.

Audio deleted after transcription

The web app deletes your audio file right after processing. Transcripts are encrypted at rest and kept for up to 90 days unless you delete them sooner. We never sell them, share them or train on them.

Free plan, then from $1 a month

Free includes 150 minutes a month. Lite is $1 a month for 600 minutes, and Pro is $5 a month for 3,600 minutes.

MP4 to text questions

You can try it without an account. A free account includes 150 minutes a month. On the web, free uploads cover the first 30 minutes of a recording, and every upload uses at least 15 minutes of your balance.

Try it on your own recording

Upload a file and get the transcript, speaker labels and an AI summary. No card and no signup.
