How to convert audio to text

  1. 1

    Choose your file

Drag an audio file into the box above, or click to pick one. Voice memos, call recordings and podcast episodes all work.

  2. 2

    Wait a few minutes

Keep the tab open while the file uploads. After that it processes on our servers and appears in Recent Files when it is ready.

  3. 3

    Read and fix the transcript

Check the speaker labels and rename speakers so the transcript uses real names.

  4. 4

    Export it or ask questions

Download TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT or VTT. You can also ask the AI for a summary, a list of decisions or a draft email.

Which audio files work

Common formats

MP3, M4A, WAV and FLAC all upload directly. So do most other audio formats, up to 1 GB per file. The upload page in the app takes several files at once.

Video with audio

If your recording is a video, upload it as it is. GhostMinutes only uses the sound. See the video to text page for details.

Phone recordings

iPhone voice memos export as M4A, which uploads like any other file. The GhostMinutes iOS app can also record and transcribe on the phone itself.

How to get a cleaner transcript

Record close to the speaker

Distance and room echo cost more accuracy than file format does. A phone on the table beats a laptop across the room.

Keep the original file

Upload the file your recorder made. Each round of re-compression throws away detail that helps with quiet words and names.

Rename speakers first

Do this before you ask the AI for a summary, so the summary attributes points to the right people.

What you get with GhostMinutes

No bot in your call

You upload the file after the call, so nothing shows up in the participant list.

Old recordings work too

Upload a recording from today or from last year. GhostMinutes takes MP3, MP4, MOV, M4A, WAV, FLAC, MKV and other audio or video formats up to 1 GB.

Speaker labels and timestamps

Each line shows who spoke and when. Rename the speakers, then ask the AI questions about what was said.

95+ languages

Transcribe and summarize in more than 95 languages. GhostMinutes detects the language of each file automatically.

Audio deleted after transcription

The web app deletes your audio file right after processing. Transcripts are encrypted at rest and kept for up to 90 days unless you delete them sooner. We never sell them, share them or train on them.

Free plan, then from $1 a month

Free includes 150 minutes a month. Lite is $1 a month for 600 minutes, and Pro is $5 a month for 3,600 minutes.

Audio to text questions

You can try it without an account. A free account includes 150 minutes a month. On the web, free uploads cover the first 30 minutes of a recording, and every upload uses at least 15 minutes of your balance.

Try it on your own recording

Upload a file and get the transcript, speaker labels and an AI summary. No card and no signup.
